Snowfall on invisible cattle
It is very quiet today on the reserve. The snow has been falling steadily for hours. Sound is muted and landscapes are blurred and dreamy. I was thinking about the cattle out in the inclement weather. Their thick winter coats keep them warm in this kind of weather -one of the merits of this breed. I was thinking that many of the visitors may fail to appreciate that as a breed, the moiled cow is probably one of the rarer creatures on the site. Maybe this is because it is a domestic animal and therefore in a context such as a nature reserve it becomes invisible. Is it rarity that makes something noteworthy? This question applies to many species within Oxford Island and many objects within the museum collection.
