Into the dark room

My residency is entitled "Camera Obscura" -literally meaning dark room but referring also to a precursor of the camera. Today I have been spending time in a dark room, coating paper
by using various methods. A large soft brush achieves a beautiful, unpredictable wash, whereas the technique of floating the paper on the surface of a tray of photosensitive liquid provides a more even coating. I have yet to experiment with the glass rod method.
I have been using a flower press to flatten plants in order to stop too much light getting underneath them while they are exposed to the sun. This creates a more defined outline and is in keeping with the methods used by Anna Atkins in the creation of her book. Some of these flowers are now ready to use with the new paper. I also want to create digital negatives for use in making contact prints with the cyanotype paper, combining the traditional methods with new technology.
